Pinnacles Campout

Route To | Route From | Route Map

The Pinnacles Campout is a good way to try out self-contained touring. The routes are about 80 miles each way, but the hills are not too bad.

Camp Reservations are needed. The Pinnacles Campground has their own website, where it is possible to go and reserve sites online. Camp costs are $7 per person per night, plus a registration fee of $7 per campsite. There is a limit of 6 people per campsite. Extra cars are $5 each, with the first car included with each campsite. In the past we have reserved sites O, N, and M, in that order as needed.

The Pinnacles Campground has a small store and a swimming pool. During the summer only Duraflame logs are allowed, but that works out fine.

If the plan is to stay for 2 nights, then the middle day could be used for hiking in the park. The campground is separate from the Pinnacles National Monument, so there is an entry fee of $2 per person or $5 per small group or carload. There is a free shuttle to take you into the park, about 2 miles away.
